Computer Skills and Applications
At Southeastern, we believe our students should be an active part of the digital revolution, so there are lots of computers for them to use all around our campus. In Computer classes, we teach our students the basic skills and knowlegde they need to be successful at keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, Internet use, and presentation software. Students take computer classes in 6th, 7th and 8th grades for 9 weeks in each course. Our students have fun while learning to operate various software and Web 2.0 tools which are available on the Internet.
At Southeastern, students acquire the knowledge and skills for movement that provide the foundation for enjoyment, continued social development through physical activity, and access to a physically-active lifestyle. The student exhibits a physically-active lifestyle and understands the relationship between physical activity and health throughout the lifespan. In Grades 6-8, students understand in greater detail the function of the body, learn to measure their own performance more accurately, and develop plans for improvement. They learn to use technology such as heart rate monitors to assist in measuring and monitoring their own performance. Identifying the types of activities that provide them with enjoyment and challenge and that will encourage them to be physically active throughout life is reinforced.
Family and Consumer Sciences Education
Family and Consumer Sciences provides 6th, 7th and 8th grade students with the chance to explore life skills essential for their roles as managers, consumers, workers, and family members. The focus is on forming a foundation for applying life management skills. Sixth grade FACS focuses on introductory basics. Seventh and Eighth grade FACS emphasize more advanced, project based applications.
